Melbourne Romaine (Mel) Carriker (25 February, 1915 - 25 February, 2007) the son of Melbourne A. (Meb) Carriker, Jr. (1879 - 1965) and the author or editor of three books on his father's ornithological and phthirapteran work died following a stroke. The genus Aquanirmus Clay and Meinertzhagen, 1939 is restricted to the Podicipediformes: Podicipedidae. A small series of females have been collected from the great grebe, Podiceps major.
