English title: Preliminary study of the community of rodents (Rodentia: Muridae) and their ectoparasites (Acari, Phthiraptera, and Siphonaptera) in Punta Lara (Buenos Aires).

This paper deals with the study of the four most abundant species of rodents and their associated ectoparasites. On the basis of presence/absence of ectoparasites, two groups of hosts were differenciated: one including Oxymycterus rufus Fischer and Akodonazarae Fischer, with less diversity and richness compared to the second group (Scapteromys aquaticus Thomas and Oligoryzomysflavescens [Waterhouse]). From all of them, 7350 ectoparasites were coHected. They belong to 14 different species, which are polixen (Trombicula alfreddugesi Oudemans, Ornithonyssus bacoti Hirst, Androlaelaps fahrenholzi Berlese, Eubrachylaelaps rotundus Fonseca, Polygenis spp., and IxodesloricatusNeumann), oligoxen (Laelaps manguinhosi Fonseca, L. paulietanensis Fonseca, and Gigantolaelaps mattogrossensisFonseca), and monoxen (Misolaelaps microspinosus Fonseca, Laelaps echidninaBerlese, Hoplopleura scapteromydis Ronderos, H. aitkeni Johnson, and H. travassosi Werneck). Oxymycterus rufus was not parasited by any Phthiraptera. In each habitat, hosts of the same group have more chances of sharing oligoxen and polixen ectoparasites which spend part of their lives as free forms. The absence of Phthiraptera on O. rufus would imply that the community of rodents in Punta Lara is isolated from other equivalent communities from nearby localities.
