The variation within a group of related species parasitising one host family (the Rallidae) is discussed, and the characters and range of variation in the species from other host groups are compared. The phylogenetic origin and possible explanation of the present distribution of the Rallicola -complex are considered. In conclusion it is suggested that all the groups under discussion should be contained in a single genus Rallicola. A new species of Rallicola (R. sarothurae) is described and two species renamed. A key to the known species of Rallicola is given.</style>
<notes><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">a; Clay subsumes the following genera in to the single genus Rallicola. Rallicola; Paricola; Aptericola; Furnaricola; Corvicola; Epipicus. However, the genus Wilsoniella is maintained. This paper is superbly figured particularly with respect to female genitalia. Note also a general attempt to document the shape of both male and female genitalia (including the vulval margin). This paper is significant attempt to view Phthirapteran relationships from a phylogenetic perspective.</style></notes><custom2><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">pdf</style></custom2></record></records></xml>
