This monograph Fauna Ibérica is dedicated to Ischnocera and is the second part of the study of Phthiraptera (Mallophaga), ectoparasites insects Birds and Mammals, found in the Ibero-Balearic area.
It consists of 179 species, of which 164 have been collected Birds and Mammals 15 on untreated. All these species correspond to 52 genera and 12 families collected over 151 species of birds and 14 mammals belonging respectively to 17 and 3 orders of those in the geographical area under study.
The volume is illustrated with 53 plates and begins by referring to the general group, noted in a previous volume of the Fauna Ibérica (vol. 20, Mallophaga, Amblycera, Matthew Martin, 2003) Series.
The work continues the systematic relationship of Ischnocera Iberian keys for the identification of families, genera and species and description of morphological characters of each of these species. Also, data on geographical distribution and biological hosts are provided in addition to an updated bibliography.
Finally, in Appendix Nomenclature designations of the various taxa and their variations throughout history are reviewed, and some nomenclatural changes including the description of a new species, dedicated to eminent Robert C. Dalgleish are introduced.
