Two species of chewing lice (Phthiraptera) were collected from seven Grey- headed Lapwings Vanellus cinereus (Blyth, 1842), caught in Jinshanyakou, Yunnan Province, China. They are Actornithophilus hoplopteri (Mjöberg, 1910a) and Quadra- ceps sinensis Timmermann, 1954a. Both species represent new records for China and V. cinereus represents a new host record for A. hoplopteri. As neither species has previously been adequately described, we here present illustrations and descriptions of both species, as well as short notes on the microhabitat of both species.

We analized a total of 36 samples from animals dead from different causes. Among them, 86.1 % of lapwingswere positive to lice Phthiraptera (72.2 % had Actornithophilus gracilis, 63.9 % had Quadraceps guimaraesi and 25 % had Austromenopon aegialitidis). Regarding the populations of Phthiraptera, A. gracilis represented the 40.6 % of the total, Q. guimaraesi the 35 % and aegialitidis the 24.3 %. Regarding helminths, 2.8 % of the birds were positive with the nematode Dispharynx nasuta, 5.6 % were positive with the acanthocephalan Plagiorhynchus sp.; the cestode Infula sp. was identified in 38.9 % of the birds.
