English title: Products to eradicate head lice infestations according to the German Infection Protection Act

Abstract
Successful treatment of head lice infestation requires selection and application of effective products to control head lice as well as proving of their efficacy by thorough combing procedures. However, many instructions for use of head lice products include imprecise dosing declarations, and some package sizes are too small to meet the self-declared specifications. This may evoke great differences of dosing in praxi. The efficacy of head lice products in consideration of different dosages is tested at the German Environ- ment Agency (UBA) according to §18 of Infection Control Act. The official announcement of proven and accredited products and procedures for the treatment of public health pests specifies drugs and medi- cal devices that have been evaluated by the UBA. The recent issue lists two medical drugs containing pyrethroids and two medical devices containing high concentrated dimeticones. Their eradication effect against juvenile and adult lice was confirmed for different dosages.
