Eight species of Mallophaga were found, out of which three have been recorded in Poland for the first time (Mjoberginirmus alcae, Saemundssonia calva and S. celidoxa). The biting lice were most frequently located on the head, neck and breast of birds.&lt;/p&gt;

Parasitic arthropods are characterized by a multitude of adaptation strategies enabling them to inhabit microhabitats of different host species &amp;ndash; they could be temporary parasites, living in the vicinity or close to the host, even in bird nests, or stationary parasites living on the feathers, skin surface or inside the skin, and even in body cavity or internal organs. In this study an individual of the White Stork (Ciconia ciconia L.) that was found in Pomerania in 2005 was examined for ectoparasites. 253 specimens of lice of two species: Colpocephalum zebra (237) and Neophilopterus incompletus (16) were recorded; sex-ratio in the lice infracommunity was approximately 1:1, while the ratio of imagines to juvenile stages was ca. 5:1. Parasites showed clear host site preference &amp;ndash; most specimens (91 %) of C. zebra were found on the wings; while N. incompletus and the rest of C. zebra were observed on other parts of the body (neck, breast, flanks, back). This study is a first record of such high number of lice observed on the White Stork in Poland.&lt;/p&gt;

The faunistic research was on four species of chewing lice, including Bisonicola sedecimdecembrii from European bison (prevalence &amp;ndash; 46%, mean intensity &amp;ndash; 11 specimens), Bovicola bovis from cattle (29%, 5), Bovicola caprae from goat (17%, 75), Werneckiella equi from horse (4%, 76). Chewing lice from the examined animal species showed topographic specificity on their hosts and preferred the body sides (in European bison) or the neck and back area (in the other hosts). Individual species were characterized by distinct seasonal dynamics, and the greatest intensity of infestation was usually observed in winter. The morphological studies included seven species of chewing lice: Bisonicola sedecimdecembrii, Bovicola bovis, B. caprae, B. longicornis, Damalinia meyeri, D. ovis, Werneckiella equi . Chewing lice of ungulate mammals have considerable morphological similarity, however, the range of variation of morphometric traits and differences in body proportions are significant.&lt;/p&gt;

Red-necked Grebes (Podiceps grisegena) were visually examined for the presence of amblyceran chewing lice during the 2000-2015 breeding seasons in eastern Poland. Only one species of lice (Pseudomenopon dolium) was recorded. Amblyceran prevalence was low; four young birds (2.7%) were found infested out of 147 banded individuals (66 adults and 81 chicks). However, all infested Red-necked Grebes bore heavy parasite loads. Negative consequences of infestation for physiological condition were indicated by low hemoglobin and total protein values when compared with same-age non-infested birds. The low infestation rate can be related to the biology of the host (a diving species undergoing molt at sea, solitary breeder) and the apparent high pathogenicity of P. dolium, which left numerous holes in feathers and bleeding bites in all parasitized birds.&lt;/p&gt;

There are tables with features differentiating the development stages, which were constructed based on chaetotaxia and body measurements. This paper contains redescription of adults of H. apri too.&lt;/p&gt;
