Published Taxon Remarks:
Durden (1991a) discussed the geographical distribution and historical records of this louse. In Europe, the Neohaematopinus on tree squirrels was identified as N. sciurinus prior to the description of N. sciuri in 1932 although such lice are still occasionally misidentified as N. sciurinus to this day. Records of N. sciurinus from Southeast Asian squirrels prior to the description of N. callosciuri should almost certainly be referred to the latter species; this was the case for all such specimens reexamined by Durden (1991a). Lectotype female of Haematopinus antennatus Osborn, Ames, Iowa, on fox squirrel, No. 24136 USNM, in the National Museum of Natural History Collection, Washington, D.C. (Johnson 1958, p. 42); type material of N. sciurinus Mjöberg in the Ferris Collection, Department of Entomology, University of California, Berkeley. [ex. Kim, K. C., Pratt, H. D., Stojanovich, C.
