Abstract: | With the objective of determining gastrointestinal parasites that affect the domestic dove in Chillán, between july of 2002 and june of 2003, 200 units of Columba liviawere captured in five different sectors of the city of Chillán. Seven species of endoparasites and three species of ectoparasites were collected. The isolated species of endoparasites (prevalence in parenthesis) were: Aporina delafondi(3,5%), Ascaridia columbae (7%), Capillaria caudinflata(6%), Capillaria columbae(5%), Capillaria sp.(3%), Tetrameres sp.(8,5%) and Eimeria labbeana(11,5%). No relation was found between prevalence of infection gastrointestinal parasites and the sex or age of the birds, with the exception of C. caudinflata, that was more frequent in adult individuals. Females of C. caudinflata andC. columbaewere more abundant than males. In 100% of the pigeons was found the ectoparasites Columbicola columbae(24,4%), Campanulotes bidentatus(1%) and the mite Abstract in Spanish: |
