Abstract:

Chewing lice parasites of rustic birds captive at the Municipal Quinzinho de Barros Zoo in Sorocaba city, São Paulo state, Brazil -
Ninety-four mallophagan lice were collected from ten specimens of rustic birds captive at the Municipal Quinzinho de Barros Zoo in Sorocaba city, São Paulo, state, Brazil. The birds belong to the following species Pavo cristatus, Pavo muticus, Rhea americana and Lophura diardi. The mallophagan lice were identified as Goniocotes parviceps, Goniodes pavonis, Struthiolipeurus rheae, Struthiolipeurus nandu, Lipeurus gallipavonis, Menopon gallinae, Menacanthus stramineus e Menacanthus sp. In spite of Goniodes pavonis been, according to bibliographic data, a common species found in Pavo cristatus, it has not been reported in Brazilian literature. Lophura diardi is a new host for Lipeurus gallipavonis
