Abstract:

CHEWING LICE AS PARASITES OF SOME WILD ANIMALS IN THE STATE OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL, BRAZIL.

The authors report, for the first time in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, the ocurrence of chewing lice (Mallophaga) on some wild animals, as follows: Colpocephalumsp. and Chelopistes sp. on Red-legged seriema (Cariama cristata), Colpocephalum sp. on Great egret (Casmerodius albus), Eutricophilus sp. on porcupine (Coendou villosus) and Gyropus sp. on a wild rat (Proechymis semispinosus).
