Abstract:

We describe and illustrate Austrogoniodes vanalphenae, a new species of chewing louse from the yellow-eyed penguin (Megadyptes antipodes) in New Zealand. We amend the key to the species of the genus Austrogoniodes published in 1967 by Clay to incorporate this new species. We also report the following new host records: Austrogoniodes bifasciatus (Piaget, 1885) from Spheniscus humboldti, and A. demersus Kéler, 1952 from Spheniscus mendiculus.
