| Abstract: | Nine species of Picicola from the Picidae are recognised and a key is given to the three species-groups. Three of the species are described as new: one from Dendropicos fuscescens, one from Geocolaptes olivaceus and one from Colaptes spp. The following are newly synonymised: P. praeposterus Clay & Meinertzhagen, 1938; P. praeposterus americana Carriker, 1956; P. dissors Zlotorzycka, 1965 and P. contiguus Zlotorzycka, 1965. |
