On August 20, 2003 the Hungarian Parliament, on the anniversary of the founding of the state, bestowed on József Rékási the title of Magyar Köztársasági Érdemrend Lovagkeresztje (≈ Knight Cross of the Hungarian Republic Order). The Minister for Environmental Protection, the Prime Minister and President nominated Dr. Rekasi, identifying his four decades as an outstanding teacher, scientist and citizen. Dr. Rékási, of Pannonhalma, Hungary is the author of a number of articles on the taxonomy and biology of lice, especially those of birds of Central Europe. József attended and presented a paper at the Second International Congress on Phthiraptera, Brisbane, Australia, 2002.
