Infestation of Arvicola sapidus Miller, 1908 (Rodentia: Arvicolidae) by Polyplax spiniger Burmeister, 1839 (Insecta: Anoplura) in southern Navarra (Spain)

Abstract:

A total of 149 specimens (88 males and 61 femeles) of Arvicola sapidus capturred in various sites throghout southern Navarra (Spain) during the 1984-1985 period were analyzed. Included among those captured was unique species of louse, Polyplax spinigera. This Anoplura shows a high prevalence (81,20%) and mean intensity (21,01+_ 51,42). Prevalence and mean intensity change significantly in relation to sex, reaching the highest values in the males, but not in relation to ages and seasons. The sex ratio of the parasite population is 0,34.
