Abstract:

ECTOPARASITES ON DOMESTIC MAMMALS FROM EASTERN PANAMA, WITH NOTES ABOUT THEIR MEDICAL-VETERINARY IMPORTANCE.
We reported the presence of Ectoparasites of 238 domestic mammals (164 dogs, 50 horses, 16 cats, three mules, three pigs and two cows) from localities in Darien and Kuna Yala, showed a 84.03% of parasitism. The dogs have the more infected mammals, with 89% of parasitism. The ectoparasites were representative for insects as such the fly Dermatobia hominis, fleas Ctenocephalides canis, C. felis and Polygenis spp., and lice Bovicola equi, Heterodoxus spiniger y Trichodectes canis. The ticks collecting belong to following species: Amblyomma cajennense, A. oblongoguttatum, A. ovale, Dermacentor nitens, Ixodes affinis, Rhipicephalus microplus y R. sanguineus. The commonest species were Amblyomma ovale, R. sanguineus y D. nitens y C. felis, due their more spread distribution; while I. affinis, A. oblongoguttatum, C. canis, T. canis, H. spiniger y B. equi, keep a narrowest distribution.
