Abstract:

An analysis of the crop contents of an amblyceran louse, Hohorstiella lata infesting pigeons (Columba livia) in District Rampur (UP) revealed that 57% adult males, 73% adult females, 10% rst instar nymphs, 17% second instar nymphs and 20% third instar nymphs contain red contents compatible with host blood along with feather barbules. The pointed post-palpal spine occurring at the base of maxillary palp may be used by the lice for procuring the host blood.
