A NEW SPECIES OF SUCKING LOUSE FROM NINGXIA HIU AUTONOMUS REGION (PHTHIRAPTERA: POLYPLACIDAE)

Abstract:

Eulinognathus cruciformis sp. nov.The head is armed ventrally with a group of three thorn-like processes at the anteriorlateral angle and with a larger one posterior to them. There is a broad flat process on the dorsal side of the hasal segment of antennae. The thoracic sternal plates is longer thanbroad, characteristically in the shape of a crucifix with its posterior protrusion longer thanthat of the anterior. The abdomen is without sclerotic plates except the usual genital sclerothation and paratergites. Paratergites are present on segments Ⅱ - Ⅵ with the posteriorSetae unequal, especially those in segments 1 - IV in which one of the two setae is muchlonger than the other. It is near E. aculeotus (Neumann, 1912), from which it differs bythe characteristic sternal plate and the trinngular paratergltes with anterior protrusionIt is named after the characteristic form of the thoracic sternal plate which is unique inthis genus.HOlotype ♀, allotype ♂, Paratypes 16 ♂♂, 27♀♀, off Alhaaga sp., Zhong NingCounty(37. 4°N, 105. 6°E), Ningxia, 25.
