A NEW SPECIES OF THE GENUS EULINOGNATHUS FROM NEI MONGOL, CHINA (ANOPLURA: POLYPLACIDAE)

Abstract:

Among the four species of Eulinognathus parasitic on jerboas from Nei Mongol, one was found to be new to science.Eulinognathus cardiocranius sp. nov.It was collected off Cardiocranius paradoxus Satunin. The morphological characters which differ from all other species of the genus are: 1. lack of hook-like processes on the venter of head, 2. pentagonal thoracic sternal plate provided with a heavily sclerotized frame along the lateral and posterior margins, and 3. paratergal plates present on abdominal sengmentsⅡ-Ⅵ, all with posterior lateral angles pointed and with all setae much longer than the plate bearing them, although the setae on each plate unequal.Holotype♀, allotype♂, paratypes 4♀♀, 2♂♂, 2 nymphs, all deposited in the Department of Parasitology, Guiyang Medical College, Guiyang.The louse found on Euchoreuies naso Sclater from Xinjiang and described as a new species, Eulinognathus euchoreuiei Chin, 1984, is found to be a junior synonum of E. euchoreutae Cais, 1977
