Published Taxon Remarks:
The host species are divided among several subgenera of Spermophilus (Hoffmann et al., 1993). [ex. Durden, L. A., Musser, G. G. 1994. Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History 218: 1-90]. Type depository of L. laeviusculus is unknown. Lectotype female of Haematopinus columbianus Osborn on Spermophilus columbianus, Pullman, Washington, July 1896 (Type No. 5178), and the neotype of Linognathus montanus (Osborn), near Fort Colins, Colorado, 11 Sept. 1892, Stannard, from spotted gray squirrel, are in the National Museum of Natural History Collection, Washington, D.C.
