Published Taxon Remarks:
One of the hosts was originally reported as Alopex lagopus, the arctic fox. Results of current phylogenetic study indicate lagopus should be placed in the genus Vulpes (Gefen et al., 1992). Canis familiaris, long the name of domestic dogs, is a synonym of C. lupus, the presumed ancestor of domestic strains (see Wozencraft, 1993: 280, and references cited there). The type host corresponds to C. lupus. [ex. Durden, L. A., Musser, G. G. 1994. Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History 218: 1-90]. Described from domestic dog in Germany, neotype female designated and deposited in the Ludwig collection, University of Heidelberg, West Germany (Weisser 1975). [ex. Kim, K. C., Pratt, H. D., Stojanovich, C. J. 1986. The Sucking Lice of North America, p. 241: Pennsylvania State University]
