Abstract:

The present paper deals with 11 Chinese species of the genus Hoplopleura,ofwhich one is described as new to science and three recorded for the first time in China.All the species are synoptized in an appended key.Hoplopleura ondatraria sp. nov.This new species is allied to Hoplopleura pacifica Ewing and H. sicata Johnson,but the tergal and sternal plates of its abdominal segments without characteristicsword-like setae, the paratergal plates of abdominal segment Ⅶ with dorsal lobe welldeveloped and acute, and its male genitalia and female genital plate also different inshape. This new species is also related to Hoplopleura himalayana Mishra, Kulkarni etBhat, but its paratergal plates of abdominal segment Ⅲ with apical lobes muchbroader and emarginated, the thoracic sternal plate comparatively broader (about1.5-1.6 times as long as board), and its male genitalia and female genital setae alsodifferent in shape.Holotype ?, allotype ?, and paratypes 1 ? 1 ? from Ondatra zibethica Linnaeus,Hebei Province, September 1962. All types are deposited in the Institute of Zoology,Academia Sinica.
